Famed for its cathedral, Kölsch beer and love of carnival, this sociable city by the Rhine makes for a vibrant city break. The beautiful Gothic cathedral, which towers above the Old Town was artfully reconstructed after its devastation in World War II. Today, it’s a place of quaint cobbles and historic breweries, along with some outstanding art museums.

Itinerary

Day One

We depart in the early hours of Friday morning/late Thursday night and make our way to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais. We continue our journey to our hotel in the Cologne area where we hope to arrive early afternoon. After check-in, we have time to freshen up before heading into the centre to explore. You may wish to grab some dinner before heading back to the hotel in the evening.

Day Two

After breakfast, we board the coach and head to Cologne City Centre, where you have the whole day to explore one of the best cities in Germany. Experience exciting museums, enjoy a refreshing Kölsch beer in a rustic atmosphere or unwind in this cosmopolitan metropolis on the Rhine.

Cologne is a vibrant city renowned for its breathtaking UNESCO-listed Gothic Cathedral that features 157-meter towers that survived WWII and offers stunning city views after climbing 533 steps. Explore the charming, cobbled streets of the Old Town (Altstadt), traditional pubs, and sample Kölsch, a local beer served in specific, small glasses.

There’s a vast array of museums in Cologne. You could visit the Chocolate Museum for a sweet treat, Museum Ludwig for pop art (including Picasso), or the Fragrance Museum to learn about the city’s namesake perfume.

Alternatively, take a leisurely boat ride, stroll along the Rhine embankment, or take the Cologne Cable Car for scenic views of the city skyline. Walk across the Hohenzollern Bridge, famous for its thousands of “love locks,” and visit the Koln Triangle for a panoramic 360-degree view of the Cathedral and river.

We depart in the evening and make our way back to our hotel after a full day of exploration.

Day Three

After a leisurely breakfast, we load the coach and begin our journey back to Calais for our return crossing to Dover. We continue to our pick-up points where we hope to arrive late evening.
